In a perfect world, you’d make it through the HCG Diet without any cheats or stalls. Unfortunately, it’s not a perfect world, and as summer begins HCG dieters are greeted by barbecues and endless opportunities to cheat. While we encourage you to avoid cheating, we also know that you will have moments of weakness and you may eventually cave. If you mess up and eat something you shouldn’t, the most important thing is that you don’t give up. It’s not too late to get back on protocol and continue the weight loss.
After you cheat, your next few moves are critical to avoid stalls. Here are 5 things you should do after you cheat on the HCG Diet:
The weight you gain after a cheat day isn’t fat, it’s actually water weight. So up your water intake to help your body flush out some of the extra salt you’ve eaten. It’s important to stay hydrated the day after your cheat so you don’t retain any more water.
Do a Cali Kicker
When you do the HCG Diet, your body develops a routine. Your metabolism knows how many calories to expect and what types of food to expect. It engages and starts digesting foods according to this routine. When you have a cheat day and eat foods that your body isn’t used to, your metabolism can go into shock. It doesn’t know what to do with the food you’ve eaten and it can take awhile for it to break those foods down. This can cause stalls on the HCG Diet. To speed your metabolism up, you can try a Cali Kicker. A Cali Kicker combines cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and stevia to kick start your metabolism. Cali Kickers can be done the day of or after a cheat once per day, and it’s recommended you do them after eating a meal.
Expect to Gain
The biggest consequence to cheating on the HCG Diet is weight gain. Not everyone gains after a cheat, but most people do. Don’t freak out if you gain, just get back on track and keep moving forward. When you see the scale go up, it can feel incredibly discouraging, but remember the gain is a consequence of your actions. Avoid the actions led you to the consequence and you won’t feel that discouraged feeling again. Gaining weight doesn’t mean your diet is ruined, the weight will come off, it might just take a couple days.
It’s easy to get down on yourself after a cheat. People commonly feel like they have failed. Cheating on your diet does not make you a failure, it makes you human. Look at the situation as a bump in the road. It will only define your diet if you let it. Look at the situation with a positive outlook. Instead of taking it as a sign that you can’t do it, take it as a lesson learned. Going off protocol is never worth it, and now that you know that you’re able to move forward with the diet with a renewed dedication.
You’ll be tempted to try everything all at once to get the cheat weight off. While it may seem logical, it isn’t necessarily the best strategy. Some of the most common post-cheat blunders are:
Skipping meals can actually cause a gain. Skipping a meal will slow down your metabolism and you’re likely to gain the next day.
-Doubling up on drops
Increasing your dose of drops will not speed up results, you won’t see faster weight loss, but you will run out of drops more quickly.
-Doing an apple day with a Cali Kicker and a detox bath.
Don’t do an apple day unless your weight has been the same for four days. Apple days aren’t for cheats, they are for stalls. But more importantly, do not double up on stall breaking remedies. For instance, we recommended trying the Cali Kicker, but it wouldn’t be wise to do both the Cali Kicker and apple day in the same day, or an apple day and a detox bath in the same day. Doing two stall breakers in the same day can send your body into shock. After a cheat your body just needs to get back to the routine of the diet. Once you’re back into a steady routine, the weight should come off. If it doesn’t, then you can try some of your other options one at a time.
Diet cheats happen to the best of us, but it’s important not to let one little mistake ruin your diet for good.
